How to Install Corrugated Metal Roofing on a Shed
Corrugated metal roofing is easy to install. The sheets are usually available in eight- or ten-foot lengths. To cut the sheets to size, use a tin snip or straight edge snips. Place the metal panel on a stable workbench surface and draw a right-angled triangle. Measure the height of the opening and divide the height by two. This will give you the depth of the shed.
To start the project, measure the height of the structure you plan to cover with the corrugated metal roofing. Then, cut the sheets to size using a utility knife. Lay the metal roofing on top of the plywood. Afterwards, use nails or staples to secure each sheet to the plywood. Overlap the metal roofing by a minimum of four inches to ensure that it is securely in place.
After measuring the roof height and width, cut the corrugated metal roofing sheets to fit. If the panels are wider than the roof height, cut them slightly. Overlap should be about four inches. You can use a roofing calculator to find the right size corrugated sheets. You will need to input the slope length, width, sheet thickness, colour and finish of the panels. After that, you’ll need to nail them to the deck of the roof.
To begin the project, you’ll need to measure the height of the purlins. This will be the base for the corrugated material. Make sure the verge barge board is level with the top of the purlins and re-felt the roof sheets. Next, you’ll need to install the ridge piece. This is a simple task and requires no special tools.
After completing all measurements, you’ll need to install the corrugated metal roofing sheets. Remember to leave some space between the corrugated metal sheets. If you’re using pre-cut corrugated sheets, you’ll need to leave room for the ridgepiece to fit properly. You can do this step in two different directions. For instance, you can overlap the corrugated sheets by one-half inch. Once you’ve completed this step, you can start installing the roof.
The first step in installing corrugated metal roofing is to place the sheet in the bottom corner of the shed. Then, install the sheet by using the pre-formed end lap grooves. Once you’ve installed the first sheet, the next step is to attach the second sheet at the same angle. The third step should be completed by putting the ridge piece in the ridge line.
